Sewing Patterns

No fuss just fun!

If there is one thing that really adds variation and versatility to a garment, it would be buttons! I think we can all agree that although beautiful, sewing buttonholes can be a fiddly process. Our Loren pattern takes out the fuss but keeps the fun. The secret? Since Loren can easily pull over your head, there is no need for working buttonholes. The wide front placket facings are perfect for even the largest “statement” buttons. The V neckline is just right, not too high or too low and the side slits keep the look fresh and breezy.

Will these designs fit me?

The four Loren pullover dresses have an intended loose fit.

Since we all have different preferences in how loose or fitted we like our garments, we always recommend taking a look at the Finished Garment Measurements on the Size Chart. View our size charts here.

There’s a revolution going on - clothes for different bodies...

Are you tired of fighting with what to wear? Of shoulder seams that fall down to your biceps, chests that bunch in your underarms, plus size tops with standard size arms, leg width becoming too wide when increasing in size?

No one is immune to the sinking feeling that fashion and one’s body are fatally misaligned. Our bodies don’t grow proportionally so why do clothing manufacturers assume they do?

What fits a twenty-year-old size 8 fit model is very different than what looks flattering on a size 16 woman in her fifties or sixties - and vice versa.

If you wish for more consistent sizing, with more emphasis on appropriate fit for your body shape and age, and with a wider choice of colors and fabrication - for the most part, the retail industry has the odds stacked against you

Tired of poor fit? 3 reasons why it’s not your fault

First is that the core body shape that most brands start with represents a very small percentage of the real people who make up their target demographic.

Some of this emanates from the industry’s use of professional fit models who maintain a ‘perfect shape’ and represent the ‘ideal’ woman or man; these models are often more a muse for the brand than a reflection of real customers.

They reflect what the industry calls an ‘hourglass’ shape for women (think Marilyn Monroe) because for many years clothing ‘standards’ maintained by the US Government reflected this hourglass shape.

Body Shapes

Unfortunately, those ‘standards’ were based on data originally collected from young men and women in their late teens and early twenties who joined the military at the onset of World War II.

Most industry professionals have known for years that these so-called standards are outdated, but until about ten years ago, with the development of new body scan technologies (Size USA, completed in 2003, was the first truly representative study of the American population since 1942), there was no empirical evidence as to how the population had actually changed.

No two bodies are exactly alike; bodies carry weight in different ways

The second factor for fit frustration is grade rules. Grade rules, the mathematical formulas that determine sizing, were built by German clothing production engineers in 1900s. These formulas assumed key body measurements grew or shrunk evenly between sizes. This was perfect for manufacturing and is still in use today.

The problem with these tidy rules is that unless you’re the company’s core size, you’ll find that the shape of the clothing does not match.

Why? Because our bodies do not grow proportionally and so the shape and balance of depth of most clothing is not right. These engineers worked in a two-dimensional world and that simply doesn’t translate well to our three dimensional bodies.

Finally, fit - proper fit - is not about size or measurements; it’s all about shape. The body is three dimensional and when clothing patterns are developed that actually represent the three-dimensional shape of real human bodies, the odds that clothing will fit increase sharply.

So, what exactly will your patterns do for me?

We’re so glad you asked!

We use the latest technology and body scan data to get you as close to perfect fit as possible. In fact, our customers are so satisfied with our patterns that we have a return rate of less than 1% compared to the industry retail average of 30%.

What’s our secret? We work with the latest 3D body scan data to test our clothing on virtual avatars as well as live fit models in all core sizes. What this means is that we make micro-adjustments for fit, balance and styling to make sure that every design we offer works well in the sizes we sell for our average demographic.

“Your company patiently guided me from beginning to end with high quality fabric selection all the way to a high quality completed wearable sewn project. The packaging and instructions were very clear and it was a pleasure to talk to Catina about the few questions I did have about the pattern. It's been a long time since I had time to sew a project like this but it really made me feel like a kid again tinkering along with my mom's sewing machine. Thank you! ”
